Saved by the Good Book

Sgt Louis Harvard, of the 4th Infantry Division of the US Army, had the good book nestling in his chest pocket when an enemy bullet ricocheted off his rifle and lodged itself in the book, saving his life. This little bit of history is on display at the Utah Beach Museum, commemorating the D-Day landings, which we visited on our way back up to Cherbourg. Well worth a visit. A supremely humbling experience. Normandy is gearing up for a major influx of tourists and pilgrims on June 6th 2014, when the 70th anniversary of D-Day is marked.
