The Blue House

I've probably already sung my praises to our local blue cultural center time and time again, but let's do it one more time just for luck.
 
One of the absolute biggest advantages of having moved to Angered* is our blue cultural center called Blå Stället (“The blue place”). It was built in 1979 and was at the time Sweden's very first cultural center located in a suburb. The idea was that the workers from the Volvo factory would come here straight after work, in their blue collars. In Sweden we translate Blue collar to “Blåställ”. In other words this is a pun where the same word refers to both the blue place (Blå Stället) and working clothes (Blåställ). The more you know. 

Here, I have held an open parent meeting group for people in parent leave that wants to connect with other parents and at the same time practice Swedish (The majority of the parents are new to Sweden). 
Under the roof of the same house you have a theatre, cinema, art gallery, library and an open art studio. An annual book fair is held here. During the summer, free activities are organised for children and young people, today with yarn crafts as the theme. My kid participated with enthusiasm.

I know I sound like I'm getting paid to talk about this place, but I really like the commitment, how much collective and non-profit activities there are here. I feel connected to the place and the people. There are so many people that have prejudices about Angered, so I feel motivated to show all the really good things that are here, as a sort of counterbalance. 

*No, we are not particularly angry in Angered, it is about the emphasis in the word. Ange-red. “Ange” is probably from an Old Norse name; Agund, combined with the word “red” = an old word for a clearing.
