An aged tree
On the eve of my birthday it felt apposite to post as my blip a photo of the old Kauri on the front corner of our land. I have done so before, and it remains as a reminder that we pass briefly through the years compared to such trees.
Because of the sensitivity of the smaller roots I stayed on the neighbour's drive (they have a right of way) when attempting to measure the estimated maximum diameter. So it may not be accurate.
However, I believe it is more than 1.8 metres but no more than 2 metres. That suggests an age somewhere between 700 and 1,000 years old. More than enough to qualify as one of the oldest, perhaps even the oldest, in this area.
