Carlisle Cathedral
Today we had to be in Carlisle for one of the biggest fiascos it has ever been my displeasure to suffer. The previous chairman signed cheques for the social club along with of course the Treasurer. (Don't ask why we are still using cheques ) He is moving away, so the new chairman (should that be chair person? ) has to has to be able to sign cheques. Guess who the new chairman is.
So off we went to Carlisle a 20+mile drive. There was a branch of the bank in Penrith only a few miles away but they closed it. Daily there is a presence from the bank at the "hub". Oh no you can't do it there it has to be Carlisle. Do we need an appointment? "No it is just walk in". So we walked in and queued to be told we were in another queue and could we come back in half an hour to 45 minutes. If it was earlier they would ring us.
So off for coffee, just as we finished the call came. In we went. Have you got photo ID? Yes, and I handed over my driving licence. Next question have you proof of your address. Of course, it on the driving licence. No that's no good you need a utility bill or similar. Fortunately I knew this and had brought one. They don't seem to under stand the driving licence has to be correct or a £1,000 fine a utility bill doesn't have to be sent to the building it applies to, our lodge bills come to our home alternatively we could have the home bills sent to the lodge (not that there is a logical reason for that ). So the utility bill proves absolutely nothing.
Then of course there was the 20+ miles drive home. All that for something as simple as changing a signature on an account that has been running for years.
Oh the blip I nearly forgot. Early in the year a Peregrine was hanging out around the cathedral so we went along to see if it was still about. No luck. So rather than dig out a "proper" camera we settled for phone shots of the cathedral
