There are four statues by sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen standing at each end and on both sides of Hämeensilta bridge in Tampere; the Tax Collector , the Finnish Maiden, the Tradesman and the Hunter (1929).

The theme for the statues came from the Northern Finland's and Northern Sweden's history between the 13th century and the early 17th century. Birkarls, Pirkkalaiset collected taxes in Lapland. In 1920s researches though that Pirkkalaiset came from Pirkkala but nowadays they are not so sure about that.
