Just For One Day Lights Up the West End
Tonight, 80s nostalgia at the Shaftesbury Theatre: Just For One Day: The Live Aid Musical.
It’s a high-energy celebration of Live Aid’s iconic music, featuring impressive vocal performances and reinterpretations of 1980s music, avoiding look-alike impersonations. However, the actors playing Midge Ure and Bob Geldof are obviously taking inspiration from the real people. The storytelling might lack some nuance now so much time has passed. It’s been suggested that it’s a sanitised portrayal of complex issues, and you can see that. However, I don’t think that detracts from the show.
