Séayoncé
There was some measuring up for the wood lintel that the decorators needed to replace. Most of the outside work is now complete, and C will be moving to another job next week. He seems to be working seven days a week and has a great work ethic. I’m unsure when somebody will arrive tomorrow to do the replacement framework.
After work, a tube to Bethnal Green for a dinner reservation at Arepa & Co for some Venezuelan food. The restaurant is tucked away behind a hotel, but it offers a view of the Young V&A (V&A Museum of Childhood). We started with Pastelitos (£7.50 for three savoury beef turnovers) and Tequeños (£7.75 for three cheese pastries). They were delicious, and we could have eaten them all night. For the main, I went for Arepa Pernil (£11.75 for braised pork shoulder, avocado mix, pico de gallo, spicy mayo, olives, and pickled red onions). At the same time, PY had Arepa Mariana (£11.95 for the chicken, mayo, and avocado, as well as the cheddar and plantain version). Both of them were also lovely. Venezuelan food is firmly on the list.
Then we went to The Cockatoo, a cocktail bar located downstairs at Bistrotheque, a venue on a Bethnal Green side street that appears not to have any signs out front. It was a bit of a search. Inside, we were seated on stools by the back; PY was a bit annoyed that the ‘perched-on-stools’ had not been part of the booking. There were other nice seated booths, but they were for groups larger than the two of us.
We were there for the performance by fortune teller Séayoncé (aka Dan Wye). The evening was hilarious, and I’m glad I was not one of the people selected to have my fortune told. It’s interesting to watch how some of the audience played along with it, and some resisted the whole time.
