Stravaiging the Lanes of Stromness

Where to begin today when the weather can’t decide what to do?  There was a very sunny dawn until I put a dainty little foot over the doorstep for my slip walk and the weather gods decided to blot out the seascape with a mist of mizzle- not too wetting but quite damp. Home and the sun came out for my outside coffee.

I stravaiged for a while round the back lanes of Stromness  poking my nose up closes  and round corners. There are houses in the most surprising places and I don’t know how the postie knows where they are or what their addresses are, it’s not obvious to me. All the time, the sun shone and it was warm and almost continental. By the time I had to leave the flat to have lunch with SelkieMaureen it was hot- almost too hot for me and Maureen indoors so we carted everything outside. 10 minutes into our picnic in the garden, the sun disappeared as if a switch had been thrown and the mist and  mizzle returned…….Everything back indoors as we watched the mizzle gain arms and legs and become proper rain.

In a brief interlude of precipitation, I scurried home in time for a wet Selkie WendyS, my self acclaimed Orkney daughter to pop in for a chat.  It was good to hear about her Swedish Yoga break and visit to Edinburgh.
Just as she was about to leave, a knock on the door announced the arrival of my supper, chilli con carne from the kitchen of SelkieLibby and delivered by the lovely Michael who was adopting  the persona of a Deliveroo boy , but  a very classy one.
I’ve now devoured my meal on wheels  and it was so good- thank you Libby and Michael.

It’s  still wet and miserable outside and I’m trying to write to a new but dear friend who is in hospital having chemo at the moment so I’m not complaining about anything.  Chin up Janice, you can do this!
