High Peak Walking
A leisurely start to the day after coffee we walked down by the river to the village and tried to get a Guardian but they only had reserved copies so I put in my order for the next 3 mornings. The temperature was a very warm 26 deg C and L did not want to walk in the heat so we had lunch and I decided to go for a solo trek up the hills. This turned out to be a very sweaty experience as the All Trails footpath had two really steep inclines to negotiate and I definitely had to pause after ascending for a few minutes - began to wonder what I had let myself in for!
Anyway once I reached the top of my walk I had a great view of the edge of Kinder Reservoir and this photo is just to the right - apparently there used to be a train route all the way up here and this building is the old station.
Ironically on the way down I noticed another path that went by the side of the river and it turned out to be a gentle incline all the way to the campsite and took half the time!
Watched the very slow and steady English innings v India. Actually ended up with a respectable 251 for 4
Dinner was meatballs in a tomato sauce with spaghetti accompanied by a 2016 Chianti I had forgotten we bought back when LV was at Pieroth. 9 years on and it was very palatable. Also it was amazing how quickly the temperatures fell when the sun went down - second layers were needed but it was a welcome change from the relative heat of the day.
