2-4-6-8 Motorway
A very long day traversing England’s motorways, specifically M6, M5 & M4, with a few A roads chucked in for good measure. Sat Nav optimistically suggested it would take us 5 hours. It may well have done, had there not been the usual holdups due to roadworks and accidents, but it was actually 7 hours after leaving home, that we finally arrived at our hotel in Fleet, Hampshire. Chosen mostly because it was the closest we could get to Goodwood without taking out a second mortgage!
However, we are not disappointed. It’s a fairly new hotel and we have aircon in the room, which is most welcome, given it was showing 32 degrees outside when we arrived.
Went out to explore and get something to eat once it had cooled down a bit. Maccys was air conditioned so that was tea sorted. Carried on up the road to the station as we wanted to see if it was walkable. It only took about 20 minutes, so a trip to London on Sunday is definitely on the cards.
Delighted to find there was a large nature reserve - Fleet Pond - right next to the station. We only had to walk a few hundred yards to get away from civilisation and were rewarded with sights like this. It was starting to get dark by now, so we didn’t go much further, but it’s definitely an area to explore further in the future.
Still pretty warm outside, so very grateful for the aircon. A good night’s sleep will set us up for whatever we decide to do tomorrow…
