Nothing to do with Oasis or Heaton Park, you’ll be pleased to hear - you couldn’t pay me to go and listen to them!
A choice of venues today. Either National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and the New Forest, or Brooklands Museum at Weybridge. Given the forecast of a red hot day, we opted for the closer option of Brooklands, to cut down on travelling time. Plus, we’ve been to the NMM before (albeit many years ago) and have always wanted to go to Brooklands.
Despite the heat, it did not disappoint. The whole site is historic enough in itself, the exhibitions of old cars and planes just icing on the cake. We paid a bit extra for the “Concorde Experience” which turned out to be very informative and interesting. I never got the chance to fly on Concorde, though my parents did on several occasions. My mother’s only comment was that it was “cramped and noisy”. I can sort of see where she was coming from, but do feel she rather missed the point of travelling at twice the speed of sound!
Which was considerably faster than we achieved on the way back to the hotel. A junction closure on the M3, which had gone in earlier than planned, meant the sat nav kept trying to send us down a road that was closed. Seems to have caught quite a lot of people out judging by the amount of traffic on the A30, and it was a very slow crawl through Bagshot and Camberley to get back to Fleet.
It’s a full weekend closure for that part of the M3 but, thankfully, we’re going in a completely different direction tomorrow. Still going to be very hot though…
