Speed King
Goodwood Festival of Speed today. Our first time at the event and on the hottest day of the weekend as well. We saw quite a bit, but it was very hot and very crowded. Would have loved to explore the Paddock and other exhibits in more depth, but it was simply too hot to stand out in the sun for more than a few minutes. Viewing of the track action was therefore confined to those areas where there was a bit of shade. Just a shame that everybody else had the same idea!
We had a very nice - and not too overpriced - burger for lunch. All ingredients sourced from the Goodwood Estate. Drinks were a bit pricey but there were plenty of places where we could top up our water bottles for free.
This was very much a “sighting lap” sort of visit, with a view to seeing if we’d like to come again. The verdict is a cautious “yes”, though I’d want cooler weather next time. I’d also go on a quieter day and spend more time looking around all the exhibits rather than just focusing on the hillclimb action.
And, as far as the latter is concerned, I’d probably cough up for a grandstand pass as well. I would have killed to be able to sit in a covered stand today, especially one with a good view of the track…
