London Town

A day trip to London for the last day of our holiday. Using our “old farts” railcards, it was only £20 each return from Fleet to Waterloo including unlimited tube travel. Pretty good value for money and trains ran on time both ways.
After the obligatory stroll along Oxford Street - bought a CD in HMV, had lunch in M&S and marvelled at the exorbitant prices being asked for designer trainers in Selfridges - we headed for St Paul’s and the Tower of London as Mrs C wanted to take certain photos. Stayed in the shade (still pretty hot today) most of the way, but took to the Thames Path for the last stretch.
Then it was time for the pre-booked entertainment. We went to see “The Comedy About Spies” at the Noel Coward theatre. It’s from the same group who do “The Play That Goes Wrong” and was just as manically funny - farce, stunts and clever wordplay had us crying with laughter throughout.
As an added bonus, it finished earlier than I thought it would (had forgotten it was a 7pm start rather than the usual 7.30pm) so we were in time for the earlier train back to Fleet. Should be back in the hotel well before midnight. Which is good, because it’s an early start tomorrow for the long trek north. Hopefully the weather will be a bit cooler than on the way down and there will be less roadworks and/or accidents to cause delays.
Well, you can always dream, can’t you…
