How the mighty fall

With a thump heard half a mile away, the truncated trunk of the Grand Old Beech came crashing down this morning. Huge chunks of the massive branches are being whisked away - or grappled with by pairs of locals - as souvenirs. I've manhandled a hefty piece into our garage for a gifted wood carver to turn into a statue of St Hilda, I'm hoping.
