The River is Rising…..

Ruby and I went for a riverside walk this morning. There must have been rain falling in the headwaters of the Taylor River because I noticed that the river waters were rising. Light rain started falling before we got back to the car…. And continued for the rest of the day. Becoming heavier and heavier as time went by.
Conditions over the ranges in Nelson/Tasman gradually became dire. Multiple road closures, extensive power cuts in many areas and folk needing to be evacuated. Radio New Zealand is putting out frequent news bulletins and keeping communities informed and warned where appropriate. It’s all very distressing and I do feel for folk who are so badly affected. One community , Kaiteriteri, is out of water and the Defence Force with use of a Unimog is to assist with getting a water tanker through to that area. Kia kaha my friends.
