The Rhine Cycle Path, Day Five:

We went for a pre-breakfast run to the Remagen Bridge and back (about 6K in all), checked out and caught the ferry across to Linz again for a train to Cologne. We parked our remaining bike in the Hotel cellar and set out for the Cathedral, followed by coffee at the posh café in Dom Square. Afterwards we spent some time in the Ludwig Gallery and in the evening we hit the Brauhauses – well, we went to Fruh for wurst and pommes, fried fish and kartoffelsalat and then back to the Malzmuhlen, above which we were staying and for which we had a couple of Free Drink vouchers. It was in the latter establishment too that I discovered a lurid green soft drink called Kolsches Wasser ‘Grun’ – flavoured, apparently, with woodruff - and had to sample a couple…
