Let battle commence….
A busy day today. The contractors here chopping silage.
Kev decided he had other things to do so had to put old Charlie on rolling the pit .
Things didn’t always go to plan though. The rake for rowing up the grass in front of the forager got a puncture so had to get the tyre fitters out to fix that. Then the cattle decided to wreck a ball cock on a drinking trough in one of the fields.
There were 9 tractors and trailers carting from the fields down the road . It’s a 10 mile round trip each load so a busy day. Not helped by the hot weather. A few of their tractors had to stop and clean grass chaff out their radiators as they were overheating. Our John Deere was the same rolling the pit.
And Charlie managed to break a spotlight and take a big chunk out the cab roof when he hit the top of the shed.
I eventually went on the wee New Holland and went on the top as it was getting a bit tight. By then the grass coming in was getting too dry as the weather is so hot.
Any way , they had it all lifted by 7 pm so not bad going for 120 odd acres. The painful bit was when they all went next door to fill up with diesel before they left !
Now all that remains is to give the pit a proper roll to consolidate it and then get the plastic sheet and 1200 tyres on to keep the air out. Will need to find some extra bodies as I’m not fit to humph tyres yet.
Ho hum.
