Duisberg

The Rhine Cycle Path, Day Eight:

Started the day with our first foreign Parkrun, at the Volkspark – one of us enjoyed it so much they actually ran a kilometre or so extra! (It was me, obviously – it was just two laps round the park but I managed to miss a turning towards the end and blunder on regardless.) And then, finally, we were back on the road! Dusseldorf to Duisberg – not the most picturesque of sections, to be sure, but it felt good to be back in the saddle. At Duisberg, we checked into the hotel, deposited the luggage, freshened up and then cycled out to the Landschaftpark in the north of the city – a disused Thyssen-Krups steelworks, left rusting in the centre of parklands reclaimed from its surroundings, very atmospheric. Anyway, we took loads of photos and had a very nice ice cream from a truck. And when we got back into town we went to the Webster Brauhaus for the full German Cuisine experience: vegan schnitzel for her and currywurst for me…!
