Bl***y Hooligans

I woke up at 1 a.m. to the smell of burning..first thought of course was that something in the house was on fire - although there was no smoke alarm going. Then I thought maybe I had overdone the liquid smoke in my tea last night :-)
 
After checking around inside I went out of the back door to find the air thick with smoke..no idea where it was coming from but al least there were no fire engines about, so back to bed!!

I slept in fits and starts and the smell just got worse - unfortunately with all the windows open it was just blowing in!

Went out for my walk at 5:30 (it was light by this time) and could see some smoke drifting across the village - so went to investigate..and found the culprit! The new owners of this piece of land have been clearing it for a few days - hedges/tree/shrubs have all gone - and they must have decided to set fire to some of the waste last night and just left it to burn - as you can see it was still generating loads of smoke this morning. There is another great pile behind!!

Mid morning, it is still coming across and blowing in - and it is not pleasant sitting outside. Not sure if this even legal these days…
