First courgettes!

I thought I would have to head to the allotment at an unspeakably early hour to get ahead of the heat, but fortunately the haar paid us a visit so everything was cool and misty for the entire morning. (We moan about it a lot in the winter, when it can hang about for days, but for this relief, much thanks!). Spent most of the time watering, not forgetting to feed the little blighters, of course. There really are zillions of sparrow fledglings (I can foresee the ructions when they're evicted from the ancestral family bush in due course), but today they were black affronted because they had been joined by the starling fledglings who are of course bigger and rougher.

Was pleased to see courgettes already formed on one plant. And there's a squash plant that has put on not just one but three runners, covering most of the bed and threatening the leeks.
