Dinner on the deck

Another very hot day, but I'm not complaining!

We ate breakfast outside on the shady deck and sat there chatting with Björn and Anna-Lena while the shade slowly moved away. One after another we found ourselves sitting in the sun, even as we moved to the last piece of shade on the very edge of the deck.
Björn and Anna-Lena had a long drive home so they packed their things into the car directly after breakfast and we waved them off.

My first batch of kombucha in two years finally seemed to have fermented well even if it took nearly a month. I was happy it worked since the scoby had sat in a fridge for that two years and was probably half-dead by the time it was dropped into the tea/sugar mix. I bottled the kombucha using some home-made rhubarb cordial for it's second, priming, fermentation. Finally I made a double batch of tea/sugar and started the next kombucha brew, so the newly revived scobies can carry on feeding.
We had a lot of food left over from Friday, filling our fridge, so for the evening we invited Rose to come and help us eat it. Then we thought of Paco and Lis who have come up from Porto to their summer place a bit north of here, and we invited them too. They were actually fairly near us, at a restaurant next to the river, with a swimming place too. (We may be visiting that place ourselves soon.)
So in the end there were five of us for dinner. By the time we started to eat the sun had gone down a little and with the sun umbrellas up it felt good to once again be eating outside.
I mentioned bottling the kombucha. I had thought I'd be doing it on a rainy day but it was so warm today I didn't need, or even want, to be outside! Even now, at nearly midnight, we have three big windows open downstairs with cool air moving through the house. The outdoor temperature has now come down to 18°C, which is lovely. It makes the hot days a lot more enjoyable when the nights are cool.
