Bone Lake
Out in the early morning to see if I could capture Purple Martins in flight (there are two big martin houses here). I had some success with the martins, but I didn't want to disturb them too much so I'll try again in about a week. The morning mist on the lake was lovely.
The extra is the nest that I removed today from the bluebird house. Two eggs failed to hatch. The feathers are probably left over from when the swallows had the box. The bluebird nest is much more substantial than the swallow nest (see a couple of days ago) and it is absolutely pristine. Not a trace of a fecal sac or poop of any kind.
Bluebirds usually lay five eggs, so I can assume that three birds fledged. I never actually saw them, although I saw the parents feeding them and I heard their little cheeps.
Both boxes are clean now, and hopefully the bluebirds will be back for another brood.
