These leaves are floating in floodwater in our drive - yes, once again the Tasman area is under a state of emergency.  A Red Weather Alert has also been in place for many hours too for heavy rain and an Orange Alert for strong winds. 

The ground is waterlogged and the heavy rain, falling in recent flood damaged areas is of great concern. The ground can’t absorb more and trees have become unstable - with the wind bringing many down across roads and power lines.

As I write this, it is in the dark by candle light. Power went off at 4.21pm this afternoon and it is too dangerous with falling trees and slips for crews to reach the damaged lines so repairs won’t be carried out until tomorrow. A huge area from Golden Bay to Waimea is without power tonight.

It is now 8pm and the wind has eased. It is eerily quiet except for the sound of falling rain.
