Lady with the lamp

After yet another hot day, this evening when it was cooler, we went for a walk over the local golf course ( the sun was setting so we were safe from flying golf balls!) and then to look for glow worms. We found three individuals on a quick search. Here is one of them. It"s difficult to focus a camera on them in the dark, and they do move around, crawling up grass stalks to make themselves more visible to any male glow worms who may  be flying overhead.
(They are about 2 cm long and only the females glow. It is just the final 3 segments of their bodies which are luminescent. )
