Longyearbyen

We left Oslo and flew to Svalbard, to Longyearbyen where we’ll join our ship tomorrow.

Excuse the blurry shot which I took through the bus window on the short drive from the airport.

I actually came up to Svalbard (then more popularly known as as Spitzbergen) on Fred Olsen’s Black Watch. That was more than 20 years ago. 

Longyearbyen is very different. My extra is the hospital building ( but the guide says “don’t get sick”.) 

Last time we couldn’t getup to the walruses because of the sea ice. This trip is aiming to circumnavigate the island. Climate change of course…..
