Hairy
I am happy to report that Hubs got in to see an eye specialist this morning. We learned that he has a vitreous detachment which, although it can put one at higher risk for retinal detachment/tear, does not require treatment. We know the signs to look for now in the event that a tear in the retina develops and that is reassuring. He will go back to the doctor in 5 weeks to re-examine the eye, and instructions to call if anything changes. Whew. And he is able to read, do emails, etc now without fear!
Before we went to the doctor, I was lurking in the garden and finally found my first Pruinose Squash Bees! They were buried deep in the squash blossoms. I did manage to get some photos but would like to try again tomorrow. The males and females generally gather pollen in the morning before the squash blossoms close up (the males are known to sleep in the closed blossoms) so morning is the best time to find them. I planted squash specifically to attract these bees so I was pretty excited to see them. See Extra for a sneak peek.
Today's blip is a juvenile male Hairy Woodpecker, similar in appearance to our Downy Woodpeckers but much larger. There are at least 2 youngsters hanging around now and they are accustomed to me so don't fly off the minute I show up, which is nice and allowed me to get some good shots today.
