Splish Splash
It has been quite a day. Yesterday, Hubs mentioned that he'd suddenly gotten a floater in his left eye at breakfast. This morning, he started having flashes of light in the same eye - two symptoms of a detached or torn retina. And of course, it is Sunday so there isn't an ophthalmologist to be found. We saw Mike (Hubs' friend) off after breakfast this morning and headed over to urgent care. The doc there said he thinks he is the retina but didn't have the specialized scanning equipment to confirm. He said we need to see an ophthalmologist first thing tomorrow. And in the meantime, Hubs is to rest the eye meaning no tv, reading or computer. And no physical exertion. So the poor man has been napping and listening to TV all afternoon, bored out of his mind. And of course, we are both wanting to get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible. I reached out to friends of ours for a recommendation because he had a detached retina several years ago. We've left a message for the doctor and will call as soon as they open tomorrow. I would not have liked to have been in Brazil while this was going on, so maybe everything happened for a reason.
Once Hubs was settled, I went out to the garden to see what I could see. There was a very beat up female monarch laying eggs and a fresh male sipping nectar. She eventually got to the same patch of flowers he was on, and almost quicker than the eye could see, he grabbed her off the flower and took her to the ground. It was actually quite violent looking. They were flopping around on the patio so I picked them up and put them above ground where they completed their mission one the course of about a half hour. A shot in Extra showing the male's wings on the left and hers on the right - you can see how worn she is in comparison to him. A short while later, she was laying more eggs and he was continuing to feed. Crazy.
I thought the monarchs would be my blip but then I spotted this juvenile Tufted Titmouse, fresh out of the bird bath, flapping his wings and just being absolutely adorable. Too cute to pass up.
So that has been my day. It's nearly 5 in the evening now and the animals are milling as it's almost their dinner time.
