St Swithin’s Day

We had some rain this morning. It didn’t last long but was enough that it gathered in a few shallow puddles on the patio. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come.

I started the day with an early morning online Daoist standing meditation session. It felt a stabilising way to start the day although I was so relaxed afterwards I could have fallen asleep. The session focused on holding a series of positions for five minutes each. I could feel it was good exercise for my muscles, and my mind as it took some will power to stay in the positions.

Once finished, I went off to volunteer at Tuppenny Barn. Today we were joined by a group of volunteers on a corporate away day, so there was a sizeable bunch of us working on the beds weeding and planting out autumn/winter brassicas and chard. The conversation was, as usual, rich and varied. I feel so fortunate to have met such an interesting and friendly group of people. Today at tea break we were treated to coconut sponge cake fresh from the oven.

Andy was playing golf this morning so Merlin was especially excited to see me when I returned home. We had a particularly blustery walk this afternoon. It felt so refreshing and invigorating after all the heat this past week.
