Vive la République ! Vive la France !

Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité !

It's the 14th of July today, which the rest of the world knows as Bastille Day, except the French who call it just The 14th of July or the National Holiday:  Le 14 Juillet ou La fête nationale française, I worked as normal, but we did go and see the town's firework display, which they managed to start and end just before the end of the day, though technically in UTC, the firework display took place on the 15 July....

Last year we didn't have a full display because the emergency services were in Paris for the Olympics, and we didn't get a display the year before because the weather was too dangerous (though not here). In 2022 we had a good display, I don't know what happened in 21 and 20 as I have a blip not no fireworks, but we did have one the first year we were here on the day in 2019. One year we were in Paris visiting family and we saw an amazing display there - but that's rather a long time ago and I don't have any pictures of the event..

Today the music and narration was too loud and distorted and not very interesting or coordinated with the display. The fireworks themselves were merely okay - I've seen a lot better. The hippodrome did a good display when we went once a couple of years ago, and where we've lived in the past we've had a good view over schools which both did excellent displays.
