Intriguing Garden Plant
I have recently been intrigued by a plant in my neighbour's garden that has grown to a height of over 6 feet (2 metres). From a distance it appeared to have bunches of magenta berries on bare branched stems. Over recent days it has changed somewhat, so I took my camera out and used the telephoto lens to take a closer look.
What I had taken to be berries, were in fact buds, but instead of being green, the enclosing sepals were a soft lilac colour. The change I had noticed was that some of the buds had opened to reveal a tassel of yellow stamens. There were no petals. Instead, the sepals opened out to serve that purpose once their bud protection duties were over.
All that, together with the shape of the leaves lower down, reminded me of a wild plant that I blipped back in July 2022:

I then consulted Google-eye which confirmed my hunch.
The local flower is lesser meadow rue, Thalictrum minus
The garden flower is Chinese meadow rue, Thalictrum delavayi
