Schloss Spiez

The problem with coming to this part of Switzerland is that everything is so photogenic.

Today, I did something I hadn't done before, took a walk to Schloss Spiez which overlooks Thunersee - the lake of Thun. I had been to Spiez proper before but not to the castle, something I gladly remedied.

Spiez is a much underrated place. Many tourists treat it as a railway junction when connecting to trains travelling from the north of Switzerland down to Canton Valais in the south of the country or onwards to Northern Italy and Milan. That is indeed a shame, because it has much to offer. The lakeside is stunning and is used as a kind of beach resort for the Swiss - beaches being something of a rarity in a landlocked country.
