Rapperswill
The weather was forecast to be cooler and a bit rainy here so we decided to head down the mountains towards Zurich. The plan was either to walk around Zurich today and take in the sights, or go to Rapperswill - which is the other end of Zurichsee - to hop on a lake cruise. We chose the latter as it is closer than Zurich, it was an easy 1.5 hour drive there, easy parking and as it turned out, the most charming and beautiful little town.
We had some time to wait for the next cruise, so we wandered around the town and then found a lakeside restaurant for lunch. We chose well as we had the most delicious lunch, we both had the grilled calamari which we both love and seldom see on a menu as it is usually crumbed and fried.
After lunch we got on the small cruise boat - cruise being a little optimistic as a definition, it's just a little boat that chugs across the lake from town to town. It was warm and although overcast it was clear weather. The cruise was only 2 hours long to cover the eastern part of the lake, to do the entire lake from east end to the Zurich end takes 4 hours. We have always wanted to do a cruise and in the 20 years we have been coming here we have never done it. We visited the various towns along the lake, it was interesting to see many beautiful lakeside homes with boat houses, and all the towns we visited were very charming. An extra of Gavin and Xena on the boat. We arrived back in Rapperswill exactly 2 hours later, perfect Swiss timing!
Then an easy drive back up the mountains where it has been raining and is looking a bit drizzly still now.
Gavin and I finished watching The Survivors on Netflix last night, we both enjoyed it - he stayed awake which is always the test of how watchable something is.
