LANG JACK

First of all I would like to say thank you for all the lovely comments yesterday.  They helped to cheer me up when I was in a a lot of pain.  Thankfully I have felt much better today. Such a relief as constant pain is so depressing.

I had a nice long lie in and then watched TV for a while.  Two more episodes of The Chelsea Detective... a favourite show of mine.

Later on I walked down to the village. I needed to collect my repeat prescription and also a parcel from Tesco.  Did some food shopping as well. When I was in the chemist getting my prescription I noticed some packs of paracetamol behind the counter.  They cost £1.29.  Exactly the same packs I buy in Savers for 29p.  It certainly pays to shop around.

Got my blip shot for Wide Wednesday in the village. The theme is 'narrow".  This tall thin statue is of Jack English or Lang Jack, a famed resident of Whickham who stood 6 feet 4 inches tall and was renowned for his strength... and bad temper. He was born in 1800 and died in 1860.

“Lang Jack”  built his own cottage in Whickham. He dragged the stone for the cottage from a quarry a mile away and the chimney pots apparently weighed 12 stone on their own. In 1854 a monument to Jack's fame was built by public subscription and stood 18 foot high outside his home. Sadly in 1907 the cottage was destroyed by fire. Following the fire the statue fell into disrepair and was vandalised, so much so that it was feared it would fall over an injure someone. In 1976 the building firm Bellway restored the statue and relocated it to its current location on the main street in Whickham. Thanks to BobsBlips for hosting the challenge

The weather today was warm and sunny.
