Another day, another bullet train as we moved on west to Zhangye, a ‘very small city’ of 1.2 million. Too hot to explore though and everything shut for siesta so we grabbed a couple of pot noodles and had a hotel room lunch. Then it was off to Daxia Scenic Area along with thousands of other Chinese tourists to be bussed to regular boardwalk & viewing points where we could jostle for viewing spots. The rock formations are pretty impressive but unfortunately it was a cloudy day and the famous rainbow colours were muted. Still, it was interesting to see another example of the Chinese tourist industry in operation!
Back to our hotel and S had picked up my cold so we didn’t join Sally and Wan in the restaurant across the street; they sent food pictures and it looked fantastic! Damn, again!
