Unusual
A few years ago, in the playground round the corner, there was a notice around a tree to say it had to be cut down, as it was unsafe, but that it would be replaced. Since then, I hadn’t really thought about it til recently, when I noticed how lovely the replacement is. It’s a redbud or cercis. Native to USA or warmer parts of Europe. It’s nice to think someone in the council considers what should be planted in parks, taking into account both climate change and how beautiful it is. The red seed pods were really lit up in the sunshine.
In the afternoon I went over to Portishead to see my friend C, the mum of my son L’s best friend at primary school. So we worked out we’ve been friends for 27 years (though our boys are no longer close). We walked down to Battery Point, such a lovely spot to look out on the Severn estuary - and Wales - but I was so silly and didn’t take a photo. Lovely to also see her husband, D, who had Parkinson’s Disease which has progressed quite far and fast. He was off on his bike to the gym - where there is a special neurological personal trainer - for a one to one session. He’s amazing I think. Still exactly the same on the inside.
