Looking for the beauty

Kieran's graduation

Wow, what a day! We went down to Newport last night ready for an early start this morning. Kieran had to be there (ICC Wales) at 8 to collect his gown and have photos etc before the 10 o'clock ceremony. We stayed at Ty Newport (highly recommend) which was a very short drive away and arrived in plenty of time.
The day was fantastic with perfect weather. I felt so proud watching my youngest graduate with a first, and officially become a chiropractor. He has made a lot of friends in Pontypridd and it was lovely to watch them celebrate together. It's clear that they've got a lot of affection for each other and will hopefully stay in touch for the rest of their lives. The day was tinged with sadness as Kieran's best friend, lovely Sioned, is going back to New Zealand to live next week. She's certainly become a big part of our lives over the last 5 years and we'll miss her too.
After the ceremony, we travelled into Cardiff and had a celebratory lunch with Sioned, her mum and partner. We then went to one of the arcades for a hot drink and cake for Kieran before heading home. Kieran stayed behind for a well-deserved night of celebration.
Kieran, I am so proud of what you have achieved.  You have overcome dreadful homesickness during Covid in your first year, to being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the end of your second year. You have run two marathons while at the same time studying for exams and have achieved a first class masters degree! You have become a kind, caring, hardworking, sensible young man and I want to wish you every success in your new career.
All my love, Mum. (Mom ;-P) xx
