Racing Cars

Finally got round to seeing “F1 - The Movie” this afternoon. The sheer cheesiness of the plot made me cringe at times, but it was still a good film that told its story well. The race sequences were well shot, mixing the film cars quite seamlessly into actual race action. Some nice cameos from the real F1 paddock as well, though several faces are no longer part of it!
There have been previous films about motor racing - “Grand Prix” in 1966 and “Le Mans”in 1971 - being ones that stick in my mind. Obviously, filming techniques have moved on tremendously in the last fifty odd years, but both those films also used actual race footage to enhance the action. And the storylines were equally cheesy!
I’d still put “Le Mans” as my favourite motor racing film, but “F1 - The Movie” has now moved into second place…
