Scoots, Shoots & Leaves

I ate my first home-grown potato tonight. It was a Yukon Gold, fist-sized and solid. I meant to photograph it before I cut it up, but I was so excited to eat it, I forgot.

Such a magical vegetable, they just hide under the soil and do their growing without us knowing.

Here's a brillant song by Cheryl Wheeler about potatoes; here's a tease lyric:
"They're red, they're white, they're brown
They get that was underground
There can't be much to do
So now they have blue ones too!"
