Farewell Canada

Had breakfast in the hotel cafe and enjoyed sitting outside and watching the world go by.
Went back up to the room and managed to get everything back in our cases and ditch the few bits of food we had left.
Checked everything was out of the hire car and in our bags and then set off for the airport. There was a huge traffic jam in the other direction - it turned out there had been an armed police incident at a petrol station on the other side of the carriage way.
Handed in the car and then went to check in but we were too early. We did eventually manage to get rid of our cases and got the good news that we had got the upgrade to business class that we'd paid for yesterday. We seemed to be on a standby list according to the app. The bad news was that the flight from Vancouver to Heathrow was already delayed by several hours.
The flight from Victoria to Vancouver was a very short hop in a propellor driven plane. We had good farewell views of Vancouver Island and the mainland.
At least with the upgrade we were able to use the airport lounge and spent a long time sitting, talking to others and grazing on the food. We finally boarded after midnight and enjoyed the fancy seats and a nice meal before sleeping on the flat seats most of the way home. Upgrading is tricky for vegetarians - they had to remove a sausage from the breakfast and didn't have any replacement for a salmon starter. At least they offered an extra roll.
