Hummingbird Hawk Moth
I started feeling much brighter late afternoon yesterday and had a reasonable night's sleep. So I decided to get out and get some fresh air at Pensthorpe, not walking far, but with lots of photo opportunities. It was much hotter than the forecast and humid. The flamingos were hiding or too far away for a good photo. I got photos of ducklings, goslings, butterflies and an avocet chick - see collage in Extras. I also photographed a robin in moult, looking very embarrassed to be seen. I wasn't sure whether to mention this or not, but it is Nature - as I was walking towards the Cranes enclosure, I heard a racket behind me from a nearby pond and saw a gull flying away with something substantial in it's beak. I snatched a few photos for identification and unfortunately it was a duckling. As I was leaving Pensthorpe I spotted a hummingbird hawk moth on some verbena bonariensis, quickly changed my ISO and snatched five photos and two were in focus surprisingly. This afternoon I just edited photos and looked at the Heritage Open Day website - lots of interest, although they can't be booked until late August. I also booked a ticket for the opening of the re-vamped Norwich Castle next month, I could book in a priority period as a Museums member. It definitely feels like we'll be getting some thunder tonight!
