In Dungeness
A very hot day, it was over 30 degrees for most of the day. We set off for Dungeness, a place we like very much. Its wild, gravelly, stark, beautiful, functional and barren. Of course we liked it as much as our other visits. There isnt a lot there apart from a small railway, the lighthouses, a few galleries, the power station, lots of pylons, fishing boats, and there is Derek Jarmens Prospect Cottage with its clever and poignant garden. We did a 3 mile walk here, before setting off for the RSPB nature reserve- we were struggling a bit with the heat now. However we saw avocets-a pair nesting, terns all around, Great Egrets, nesting grebes and lots more. We were delighted.
