This Woman's Work

On This Day In History
1848: Seneca Falls Convention begins

Quote Of The Day
"Now, in view of the disenfranchisement of one half the people of this country, their social and religious degradation - in view of the unjust laws above mentioned, and because women do feel themselves aggrieved, oppressed and fraudulently deprived of their most sacred rights, we insist that they have immediate admission to all the rights and privileges which belong to them as Citizens of the United States."
(Excerpt from the 1848 Declaration Of Sentiments )

A day of culture. First of all, I went to the small, free exhibition of works by the incredible Yayoi Kusama at the Louis Vuitton espace in Shinsaibashi. For the first time, I got to experience one of her Infinity Rooms. I also enjoyed watching the video of her interview, Let's Fight Together, which is linked here. I love what she says here:

"I have been establishing my life by creating my art about some of the strong desires of human beings - such as the beauty of life and the marvelous mystery of the universe. I put my desire for peace, my praise for unpredictable life and the astonishing mystery of the universe into these 500 plus paintings. The most important thing is that the world is facing many crises right now. We're getting into the worst century in the history of my life. In this kind of era I will be very happy if everyone can share a common view of human beings for peace in the future and love with the strongest hope. Everyone, as an artist I am going to fight for the world without nuclear bombs, war and terrorism. Let's fight together. Let's fight together."

Amen to that, Kusama-san. What an incredible woman!

I then went to the Nakanoshima Museum Of Art to see an exhibition of Louis Vuitton creations. On the main photo, you can see the creations Yayoi Kusama made in collaboration with Louis Vuitton. I was really impressed with the beautiful silver dresses made by Louis Vuitton, as well as the heavily Japanese influenced clothes seen on the second extra. The third extra is the Ship's Cat sculpture made by Yanobe Kenji which stands outside the Nakanoshima Musem Of Art, and the fourth extra is the Giant Torayan sculpture by the same artist which stands in the museum's lobby.
