Black Knapweed

Centaurea nigra

Couldn't resist posting this.  Clearly the top has just split and the flower is about to burst out like a small firework.  I'm not sure I've ever noticed this happening before - do they always begin flowering this way?

Anyway this was taken earlier in the afternoon before J and I took a satisfyingly large amount of rubbish to the dump.  Actually, the day's been a slightly odd one, some sun, some rain, quite a lot of mental sorting out and decisions made.  Even though all is fine, not a day it's easy to write about so I'm going to leave it there.
