Stairs
Today was supposed to be "Day 1" of "Refurbishing the attic stairs this weekend". However, I couldn't get to my tools in the garage due to my parents' bed and mattress blocking the way. Hence, before starting work, we had to take them to the dump at Newtongrange, and before doing that Django needed his walk. I did that and, to our relief, A's microvan started first time, having not moved for two months, so we could shift everything in one trip.
Back home, I removed all the tatty carpeting from the steps and considered the job. The left hand side of the steps has bowed slightly, so half the steps are only supported by the couple of substantial nails on one side. I decided to replace all the treads - rather than try to correct the bowing by reattaching then - so, after lunch, we headed off to B&Q for suitable timber. I wanted to use the nice "bullnose" boarding I'd bought there to make (25mm thick) book shelves ten years ago - but nothing suitable like that was available. All the true timber merchants were closed until Monday, so the job has stalled.
Back home, I suddenly felt very tired - the consequences of an active week and a couple of poor nights' sleep - so I've relaxed. To advance the project and stave off procrastination, tomorrow I may remove the treads. We do have a stepladder so I can still get into the attic!
A is clearing a press downstairs, and discovered all our slides - so we'll view them tonight and decide which to digitise.
