Waterfalls

We have visited two wonderful waterfalls today. Both were accessed via dirt roads.

We arrived at Aldeyjarfoss early and there was no one there. By the time we had been working for about an hour, people started to appear.

My blip is of the amazing rock structures around the falls. I was very taken with their cathedral like structure.

My extra is the waterfall. We are standing on the opposite side of the river, raised up on larval rocks.

Our second waterfall was Hrafnabjargafoss, not far away. This is a very wide waterfall and truly impressive. Again, more people arrived.

Despite this, for most of the day we avoided the coaches ferrying parties from the cruise ship docked nearby. We did stop at the café and gift shop for coffee and loos at Geltafoss and found ourselves among American tourists from the boat. One man emerged from a women’s toilet, full of apologies and bonhomie!

We moved on to a river to look for birds.then the rain came. Eventually the rain forced us back to the van. Mike and Frank both caught great images of a whimbrel and chick. All I managed was an Arctic tern!

It’s been a good day for Botany too, so I’m very happy.

Tonight we are trying to dry out. There is a heater in our chalet, but it sparked when we tried to use it!
