Early start (again)
This is the River Derwent as it is leaving Cockermouth. Imagine water racing along here during Storm Desmond as high as the bridge, Gote Bridge, (pronounced goat.) Why show this one? To the left of the fisherman is the Trout Hotel. In the 60s Bing Crosby stayed there and fished in the Derwent (exact spot not known) so Blip taken. Google, 'Bing Crosby in Cockermouth for more info.'
As I walked along the bank, I met two Americans and chatted for a while. They asked if they had spoiled my photo, but I had used the 'Nobbly Tree' to hide them. This tree may have another name but Cockermouth residents know it has lumps and bumps on its trunk; it's well photographed; and has been damaged! They had stopped in LD before going to Glasgow and then Edinburgh.
A slight connection with America I suppose.
Today I got the unexpected, which is better than the planned excursions this last week which didn't happen because of weather and crashes, I was glad I was out early.
