Quod oculus meus videt

Bridge No 14, Brewood

We managed to dodge the showers and have a walk around Brewood, along the Avenue and the Shropshire Union Canal around lunchtime today. Either end of the day had persistent rain or thundery storms.

The canal runs in cutting for much of the route, with a canopy of mature trees over so even when it did rain we were sheltered.

We were accosted by the lady on the right of the frame, a volunteer for the Canals and Rivers Trust. We already knew that the trust was expected to be self funding by 2027, the Government reducing the grant to the organisation by 5% each year. She was trying to get people to donate or become friends of the trust and had a spiel ready to go when she spoke to people.

Unfortunately, her delivery left something to be desired and was more likely to result in people not donating. We were polite, but escaped to the local pub at the top of the bridge as soon as we could.

It started to rain just as we were leaving the pub but it was brief and we were soon able to complete the walk.
