Scalloway
Visited Scalloway after the orienteering and learned about its place in the historic WW2 Shetland Bus. The Blip is the slipway used during the Second World War to carry out essential repairs on the Norwegian fishing boats and submarine chasers used in the dangerous SOE-operated missions to German occupied Norway during the winter months. All boats were used to ferry SOE agents to and fro and rescue escaping refugees. If you are ever at the slipway, do take the time to read the information boards and / or visit Scalloway museum.
The extra shows -
○A harbour in Lerwick during our evening stroll
○ the location of the Start of the orienteering event we've come to partipate in. High up on the hill and way outside the capability of my injured leg. I did not join in. You might just be able to make out some people and the START banner.
○ the splendid Scalloway Castle, currently being renovated, so you can't go in.
