After Klimt
Rummaging through the loft my wife found this painted cloth that our eldest daughter, Paula, produced as part of her A-level art project. This was a large scale piece that had a photo of two of her school friends on a bed dressed with exotically patterned cloths, with a baby between them. Around the photo Paula had painted swirling human figures. The piece is mounted on the wall upstairs next to what is now our guest bedroom but used to be the artist's. The cloth, which she tells me was inspired by Klimt's Tree of Life, is on the bed in the photograph of the couple at the centrepiece of the work. The girl also wears my wife's wedding dress which Paula painted and which too has been found packed away in the loft. They certainly looked vibrant hung on the clothes line in the sun although, oddly, she photographed them in black and white. This would have been in 1997. Paula went on to study Illustration at Brighton University
