High FMR
I wish this dragonfly had a more impressive name to match its striking appearance. But, common whitetail it is, very descriptive. I don't have one catalogued, so this is a first for me.
Fortunately he kept returning to the same spot so I could photograph him. I think it was the heat of the rock which attracted him.
Apparently, common whitetails are perchers that rest on objects near water. Interestingly they have one of the highest flight-muscle ratios (FMR), developed to fight off other males and be more successful mating.
